Application FAQ
I have a brand “X” product model number. Does Aspen make a replacement for it?
While it is likely that an Aspen product can be used as a replacement, we do not intentionally maintain a cross reference of Aspen products to those of other manufacturers. To determine the appropriate replacement coil, the following information* will be required:
- What is the system tonnage or capacity?
- What is the minimum SEER required?
- What is the basic product configuration? (multi-position, slab horizontal, dedicated upflow, etc.)
*Additional information may be required.

Some manufacturers will require the gas furnace to be shut down on a refrigerant leak. Does the Aspen Refrigerant Detection System (RDS) option “R” kit take care of this?
Yes, it can turn off the call for heating at the thermostat.
What was the result of Nov 11th decision regarding a sticker on R410A equipment produced in 2025?
a) The 11/11 decision pertained to whether the Flex coil followed the intention of the safety standard; the industry overwhelmingly voted (40 for, 1 against) that it did not.
b) 410a coils and air handlers produced on and after 1/1/25 will bear a service sticker on the product and the packaging.
What type of Refrigerant Detection System (RDS) Kit will we provide with our mobile-home electric furnaces?
The Aspen Refrigerant Detection System (RDS) will be used on these. We have two options:
- Factory mounting the control board and shipping the sensor kit with the coil.
- Shipping the RDS kit separately with the coil and having the contractor field install it as they would on a coil/gas furnace application.
What is the warranty on the Refrigerant Detection System (RDS) kits? Do they assume the same 10-year coil parts warranty as a TXV?
One (1) year parts warranty.
With the sensor mounted on the drain pan what would be the preferred mounting location for the mitigation board?
In a vertical location that has service accessibility, preferably on a nearby wall or plenum. It should not be mounted to the coil or furnace themselves as that would risk damage to either piece of equipment.
What is Refrigerant Detection System (RDS) Kits location and installation on Ceiling mount and our LGM model air handlers?
a) On the ceiling mount, the sensor will be placed on the drain pan. It’s currently undergoing testing to fully determine the location. The board will be field installed.
b) On the multi-position, the sensor will be placed on the drain pan. It’s also currently undergoing testing to fully determine the location, though it should be like the A-coil. The board will be factory installed in the control panel.
In the event of a leak, would there be 24V between COMM and ALM?
In a mitigation state, there is NO voltage across the alarm output. The Alarm is technically on during normal operation state and once in mitigation, the onboard relay switches to the FAN output (from the Alarm contact). The relay is a Form C relay which switches between NO (Normally Open) and NC (Normally Closed).
The IOM shows codes for Communication Fault, Warm-Up and Run. Are there other LED status/fault indicators?
No, the only LED indicators are those identified in the IOM in the section pertaining to the RDS & MCB.
Are Aspen's RDS kits only allowed to be installed on Aspen coils?
Aspen’s RDS is approved for use on Aspen products only. We have safety approval/authorization to use the Daikin sensor on our coils as well.
Where do we foresee most Refrigerant Detection System (RDS) boards being mounted? (good locations vs bad locations)
In a vertical location that has service accessibility, preferably on a nearby wall or plenum. It should not be mounted to the coil or furnace themselves as that would risk damage to either piece of equipment.
What is Aspen’s guidance on what can/can’t be wired for the A2L Refrigerant Detection System (RDS) Kits. Can there be multiple devices on one contact?
a) Terminals 3 & 4 are Normally Closed (NC), Terminals 7 & 8 are Normally Open (NO), and Terminals 11 & 12 are Common > See diagram below for reference. We have W1 on Terminal 3 & W2 on Terminal 4. During mitigation Terminals 3 & 4 will de-energize and 7 & 8 will be energized, so any accessories that you would like to energize during mitigation can be wired to 7 & 8 if it is safe to do so.
b) Terminals 1 & 2 are Normally Closed (NC), Terminals 5 & 6 are Normally Open (NO), and Terminals 9 & 10 are Common > Terminals 5 & 6 are reserved for mitigation. 6 will energize the ID Blower and 6 will interrupt the compressor. Terminals 1 & 2 can be used any accessories that you would like to energize during normal operation and de-energize during mitigation mode.
c) The relay is a 24V relay. It is not safe to wire multiple devices / accessories to one terminal. Only wire one device / accessory to the spare terminals.
Explain why there is a need for an ‘A’ and ‘B’ A2L Refrigerant Detection System (RDS) Kit.
The mounting clip is different for the 13” pans/handful of SKUs than it is for the 16-23” drain pan.
What size wire nuts are required for the low voltage wiring of mitigation board?
The low voltage wire harness that connects to the MCB is made with 18 AWG wires.
Where are the sensor wire holes located?
- CX/CP/DX/CP coils: Top.
- CE/DE coils: Sides.

Warranty FAQ
Is my product under warranty?
Refer to the Warranty Information Tab to check your Aspen products’ warranty status.
What’s the status of my warranty submittal? Registration or RGA?
Contact the Aspen Warranty Team via email at warranty@aspenmfg.com
I have received a defective coil. How do I make a warranty claim?
After verifying that the unit is within the warranty period by providing the model number and serial number to your sales representative or an inside salesperson, you will need to submit an online RGA request. Once the request is approved, send the approval along with the original mylar tag from the unit to Aspen. In most cases, after receipt at the factory, credit can be issued, allowing the defective unit to be scrapped in the field.
The mylar tag is gone or missing. How do I receive credit?
The mylar tag is required. If there is no tag, the warranty cannot be honored.
Must I mail in the original warranty claim paperwork, or can I fax it?
Please mail your original warranty claim paperwork to…

I have a leaking Aspen coil on startup. I have fixed the leak myself, and want to know if I can get a labor credit for having performed the repair?
No, labor credit is not provided for self-repaired leaks. Aspen tests all coils by immersing them in a clear water bath while pressurized with 500 PSI of dry air. After confirming they are leak-free, the coils are sealed with a 60 PSI dry nitrogen holding charge. Each Aspen coil and air handler includes a Schrader valve on the liquid line, allowing contractors to perform a “hiss test” to check for leaks before installation. If a coil has no holding charge before installation, it should be returned to the wholesaler for replacement. Please refer to the C & D Series Coil Warranty or B Series Warranty for further details.
What if the part is associated with a warranty issue?
We still require you to issue a purchase order for the replacement part.
Warranty claims can be filed online at www.aspenmfg.com or by contacting our warranty department at warranty@aspenmfg.com. While it is not necessary to note “warranty replacement” on your purchase order, it can be good practice. Listing out the associated equipment model number and serial number is also advisable. In some cases, depending on the part being ordered, that information is required.
